YOUR congregation can make a difference!
We can provide funds to assist congregations with projects that address hunger and poverty in Canada (e.g. community gardens, community kitchens, Out-of-the-Cold shelters, Old Strathcona Outreach Worker to address homelessness in Edmonton, urban ministries to low income people, etc.)
Please use the new form for Compassionate Justice Initiative Synod Anitpoverty Grant. If you have questions, please contact Sharon at the Synod Office.
10 YEAR PLAN TO END HOMELESSNESS
The province of Alberta has launched a 10-year plan to end homelessness in Alberta. In many locations, cities are partnering with faith communities to reach out to the homeless in their neighbourhoods.
An Interfaith Statement on Homelessness and Affordable Housing was signed by 20 different faith groups. Bishop Ron Mayan is among the signatories on behalf of ABT synod. Although this Statement refers to the city of Edmonton, it can provide a framework for action in other areas of the province as well. There is also a Congregational Housing Action Guide with lots of practical suggestions for how to get involved. Although the Guide uses Edmonton examples, we hope it will inspire congregations to take action in their own communities. In Calgary, as a part of Calgary’s own 10- year plan to end homelessness, our congregations are working to raise money to provide affordable housing at Acadia Place.
