The Rev. Dr. Barbara Rossing

"Ecology, The Bible and Our Future:

Are We Living at the End of the World?"

September 24 - 26, 2010
St. Michael's Anglican Church
709 - 7th Street Canmore, AB

Once considered the exclusive doman of theologians and preachers, apocalyptic talk of 'the end of the world' is now mainstream fare.  Hollywood movies and major United Nations conferences grapple with the topic of "the end" in terms of climate change and environmental degradation.  How does scripture talk about the end of the world?  What does that mean in today's context of environmental awareness and concern?  Does scripture instill an ethic of responsibility for creation or does it lead to an attitude of irresponsibility?

Barbara Rossing is Professor of New testament at the Lutheran School of Theology, Chicago.  Her most recent book is The Rapture Exposed: The Message of Hope in the Book of Revelation.   Rossig was very well received as the speaker for the first two Retreats of Our Own, and is back this year to speak on themes that are close to her heart: scripture and the care of the earth.
