S.O.S. is the "Support Our Students" fund, established by the Synod of Alberta and the Territories. The fund is dispersed to ministry candidates by the Synod Committee for Theological Education and Leadership (CTEL).
Financial aid is granted to ministry candidates who are:
- Currently endorsed by the CTEL
- Attending a seminary or educational institution approved by CTEL
- Full time students (ie. in good academic standing, not on academic probation, and carrying a minimum of 3 approved courses).
- Not on internship
- Demonstrates need
Diaconal candidates are eligible for a grant towards their first quarter of CPE. Grants may also be available to assist with the cost of the Diaconal Spiritual Formation Event.
CTEL distributes financial aid twice per academic year. Depending on the monies available, the candidate may received the cost of seminary tuition.
The S.O.S. fund is supported by congregations, ELW's offering from church conventions, and by individuals. Charitable donation receipts are available if donations are made to S.O.S. through the local church or the Synod of Alberta and the Territories.
It is the goal of the ABT Synod to be able to fund the tuition fees of all ministry candidates. This goal can be achieved through the financial generosity of individuals and parishes committed to reducing the financial burden of ministry candidates.
Please make your cheque payable to the Alberta Synod SOS Fund and mail. A receipt will be issued.
